The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, has announced that the institution currently holds a total of 36 research patents with the Federal Government. Speaking during the combined convocation ceremony of the university, he emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering excellence, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
Egbewole also noted the institution’s significant contribution to research patents in Nigeria, with a breakdown of patents in various disciplines: Medical (5), Agriculture (5), Engineering (16), Food (1), Information Technology (4), Petrochemical (3), Defence (1), and Energy (1). These patents are being prepared for commercialization.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the continuous support of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), with an allocation of ₦954,732,123 for 2023 to cover specific areas and additional funding for hostel accommodation and zonal interventions. These funds are being used for various projects across the university.
A total of 25,234 graduates participated in the combined convocation, with 450 graduates achieving first-class honors. Egbewole encouraged the graduating students to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead with the ability to adapt, learn, relearn, and unlearn.
