A 41-year-old vulcanizer, Wasiu Ibrahim, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos State for defiling his wife’s 15-year-old niece.
Justice Rahman Oshodi ruled that the prosecution had provided sufficient evidence to support the defilement charge against Ibrahim. The judge noted that the convict had attempted to deny a statement he previously made, in which he confessed to defiling the survivor. Oshodi criticized Ibrahim for his actions and sentenced him to life imprisonment, emphasizing that the state has zero tolerance for sexual crimes.
The survivor had lived with Ibrahim since she was 10 years old and called him “daddy.” The judge highlighted that this relationship did not deter him from committing the crime, and he even threatened the survivor with violence if she reported the incident. The survivor eventually confided in someone after being found crying at the back of a classroom at Estate Primary School, Ogba.
As part of the sentence, Ibrahim’s name will be included in the Sexual Offences Register maintained by Lagos State.
