Ogbonna Nwuke, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has downplayed the possibility of the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, switching to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Nwuke stated that Wike has not communicated any intention to leave the PDP, and the PDP has not taken any actions to suspend him. He made these comments in response to speculations arising from Wike’s recent visit to the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Nwuke emphasized that the relationship between Wike and Ganduje predates political affiliations and that political figures often maintain friendships across party lines. He pointed out that in the past, Wike had visited Ganduje when he was running for the presidency as a PDP aspirant, and both leaders had interactions during events like the Edo State election. He also mentioned that Wike’s visit to Ganduje could be attributed to the need to maintain a positive relationship, given Wike’s nomination as a minister in the federal government led by the APC.
Nwuke concluded that there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Wike is planning to switch to the APC, and until there is more reliable information, speculations should be treated as such. He indicated that Wike has not indicated any intention to resign from the PDP, and the party has not taken any steps against him.
