Walking by Faith: Bible Verses on Trusting in God – Part 2

In the journey of life, our faith in God serves as our guiding light, illuminating the path even in the darkest of moments. Continuing the exploration of divine trust and unwavering belief, this collection of verses from the Holy Bible offers solace, strength, and inspiration to all who seek to deepen their relationship with the Almighty.

From moments of doubt to times of unwavering faith, these verses offer profound wisdom and guidance, reminding us that with God, we can confidently walk the path of life, no matter how uncertain or challenging it may seem.

  1. God as a Reliable Sanctuary

Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Psalm 62:8, KJV)

A refuge serves as a secure haven, offering safety amidst turmoil. God invites you to place your unwavering trust in Him and to entrust all your concerns to His care. He is both omnipotent and unchanging, making Him a steadfast and dependable protector. You can find solace in seeking refuge in Him, rather than relying on worldly possessions or other individuals. In Him, you will never encounter disappointment.

If you maintain a personal connection with God, no earthly trials can obstruct your safe arrival into His embrace within His eternal kingdom.

  1. Jesus’ Comforting Reassurance

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (John 14:1, KJV)

Jesus uttered these words to His disciples just after conveying a startling revelation. His unexpected announcement had left them unsettled and anxious. Yet, Jesus aimed to remind them of His identity and to instill confidence that their hearts need not succumb to worry or distress. They could place their trust in Him and in the steadfastness of His promises, just as they trusted in God’s faithfulness.

Jesus’ words consistently rang true, never failing to uphold the trust His disciples had placed in Him. As the incarnation of God, His actions and teachings derived directly from the Almighty, validating His reliability through the testimony of His life and His Father.

  1. God Hears Your Prayers

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us. (1 John 5:14, KJV)

Confidence in God grows as you draw near to Him in prayer. His unwavering faithfulness serves as the foundation for this confidence. The preceding verse affirms that eternal life is assured to those who trust God’s truth and place their faith in Jesus. This assurance fosters the confidence and trust that empower your approach to God in prayer.

God’s divine intention for you is to establish a personal relationship with Him through Christ and to exhibit love for Him and others while you strive to emulate Jesus. When you possess the confidence that your relationship with God is secure through your faith in Christ, you can trust that He listens to your prayers and responds in ways that align with His will.

  1. Trusting in God, Not in Worldly Things

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7, KJV)

In this passage, David reflects on the myriad ways in which the Lord has safeguarded His people. He remained a constant presence in their moments of jubilation and during times when adversaries loomed. He protected them from harm and delivered them from captivity. The Lord’s trustworthiness stems from His perpetual presence.

There is no need to invest your trust in anything other than God—nothing that could offer a facade of security, such as influential individuals, employment, or health. Place your trust solely in God, for He remains unchanging and unfailing.

  1. Maintaining a Focus on God

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. (Isaiah 26:3-4, KJV)

To possess a “steadfast” mind entails unwavering commitment and resolute determination. By fixing your thoughts resolutely on the Lord, you can attain a profound peace, knowing that He remains in control. He serves as an unwavering rock of stability, untouched by change or falter. You can rest assured, knowing that you are cared for by a reliable God who embodies trustworthiness.

  1. Trust God in Times of Fear

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. (Psalm 56:3, KJV)

King David, the author of many Psalms, found himself facing potential capture by his enemies, surrounded by those who sought to harm him. In such dire circumstances, David’s sole refuge was in God. Despite the imminent threat and fear, he turned to the Lord, trusting Him to oversee the situation and maintain control.

While you may not be confronted by an army of adversaries, there will be moments of fear in your life; it is a natural human response. The Bible consistently reminds us not to succumb to fear over 300 times. God acknowledges this need for reassurance. Just like David, when fear arises, you can seek solace in God, confessing your fear to Him. Trust in His provision, and rest assured that He will not let His people down.

  1. Trusting God’s Forgiveness

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about. (Psalm 32:10, KJV)

This psalm begins by portraying those who love God confessing their sins to Him. David, the author, was no stranger to sin and transgression, having committed grave offenses, such as taking another man’s wife and orchestrating the man’s death. Within this psalm, David recollects the experience of approaching God for forgiveness and restoration, bearing witness to God’s enduring love—even in times of personal failure.

You can trust in God because He does not treat you as your sins deserve. Instead, He extends forgiveness and the promise of eternal life through Christ Jesus.

  1. Trust God Over People

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. (Psalm 118:8, KJV)

Israel, God’s chosen people, occasionally sought protection through alliances with other nations rather than relying solely on God. They formed partnerships with more prominent nations, believing these alliances would safeguard them, despite God’s explicit promise of protection. Through their experiences, Israel learned the valuable lesson that trusting in God always surpasses placing trust in anything else. All other sources of security prove less powerful, less reliable, and less loving than God.

It is always wiser to seek refuge in Him for guidance and protection than to turn to others, even those who appear influential. Humans are inherently flawed, and everyone will eventually disappoint. In contrast, God remains unwavering and unfailing.

  1. Trust in Jesus’ Redemptive Work

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. (1 John 5:11, KJV)

Your confidence hinges on what Jesus accomplished on the cross. The consequences of sin entail death and necessitate a sacrifice. Instead of enduring death, Christ willingly bore this burden. He atoned for your sins, paying the price on your behalf. Your faith centers on who Jesus is and the redemptive work He accomplished, rather than relying on your deeds.

Trusting in Jesus does not entail accumulating a catalog of good works to earn favor with God. You could never attain the prerequisites for divine presence. Thus, a perfect and sinless Savior fulfilled what you could not. You can trust in this salvation, as it hinges on an accomplished feat by Jesus.

  1. Trust in God Yields Blessings

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. (Jeremiah 17:7, KJV)

The preceding verses describe the consequences of placing trust in humanity. The outcome is not prosperity but adversity. Humans are inherently flawed, subject to mistakes and failures, just like you. Trusting in humans proves unreliable, as they possess neither the omnipotence nor unwavering commitment of God.

In contrast, God inspires unwavering confidence. He has never failed you, even when circumstances momentarily suggested otherwise. He has consistently demonstrated faithfulness and constancy since time immemorial. He is inherently worthy of your trust, for He has never deviated from His plan for your life.

  1. The Promise of Heaven in Times of Hardship

And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (2 Timothy 4:18, KJV)

The apostle Paul authored this verse while addressing his young disciple. In this context, Paul recounted one of the numerous trials he endured for the sake of the Gospel. Regardless of the persecution, imprisonment, or harassment he faced, Paul understood that the Lord stood by his side. He trusted the Lord to navigate each challenging circumstance and provide support.

Paul anchored his trust in God, even when the world seemed to let him down. He knew that no matter how he had been wronged, God cared deeply for him and would ensure his well-being. Therefore, he did not allow adversity to distract him, but rather, he fixed his gaze on God.
