In a disturbing incident in Okehi, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, a woman, identified as Hope Nwala, has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly bathing her husband, Ekelediri Nwankwo, with hot groundnut oil following a disagreement.
The spokesperson for the state Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the woman’s arrest on Thursday. She explained that the arrest followed an incident where the wife reportedly committed the heinous act while the man was asleep.
The confrontation between the couple stemmed from a disagreement related to a strange man who had been loitering around the wife and her younger sister. The situation had escalated when the husband confronted his wife about the suspicious individual.
According to Nwankwo, his wife had begun to display unusual behavior when her younger sister moved in to live with them. He stated that he had asked his wife’s sister to leave their home due to her inappropriate conduct, which included occupying their matrimonial bed even when he was present. The disagreement intensified when his wife opposed his decision to send her sister away, leading to a heated argument.
Nwankwo recounted, “I also saw my wife alone with one tall black guy in the shop I rented for her. Not that he is in for business, but he followed my wife and her sister here and there.”
In response to this situation, Nwankwo provided his wife’s sister with a transport fare of N2,000 to return home, hoping to understand the events unfolding in his house. However, his wife became enraged. Later, while Nwankwo was asleep, she allegedly poured boiling groundnut oil on him and attacked him with a hammer, resulting in severe injuries.
The police have taken the woman into custody, and an investigation is ongoing. The authorities will interrogate her to determine the appropriate course of action in this distressing case.
