Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has cast doubt on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s chances of becoming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 elections. During a media session in Abuja, Wike suggested that Nigerians have repeatedly declined Atiku’s leadership vision, indicating the public may not embrace another bid.
Wike argued that Atiku has had multiple opportunities to present his blueprint, yet voters have opted against him. Drawing a comparison to the U.S. political scene, Wike noted that, as with controversial candidates in other countries, voters ultimately decide based on what they feel is best.
Reflecting on the 2023 election outcome, Wike emphasized that Nigerians had already assessed Atiku’s proposals and chose differently, suggesting that simply criticizing the current administration does not guarantee public support for the opposition.
