You Don’t Need Formal Training to Be a Fool On Social Media – AY Makun

Nigerian Comic and Actor Shares Insights on the Evolving Nature of Online Platforms

Nigerian comic and actor, AY Makun, took to his Instagram account on Monday, February 11, 2023, to share his thoughts on the evolving dynamics of social media, dubbing it the “new king Kong.”

In his extensive post, Makun highlighted the shift where emotions now hold more significance than objective facts in the realm of social media. He expressed concern that on these platforms, foolish statements that resonate with the audience garner praise, while wise statements that challenge prevailing sentiments often face persecution.

Makun observed that social media doesn’t necessitate formal training to showcase foolishness, stating, “Social media is a place where you don’t need formal training to know how to be a fool. You just have to be born foolish and be free enough to express your foolishness.”

He emphasized that the online space provides confidence even in ignorance and allows individuals to freely express their lack of knowledge without consequences.

The actor concluded by drawing attention to the impact of negative content on mental health, noting that some social media users disregard the well-being of others. He urged for a balance where the consequences of actions are considered, stating, “As long as foolish individuals do not care about the stress, pain, anxiety, loneliness, and depression they bring you, the more it is also very important for them to enjoy the consequences of their actions.”

In signing off, AY Makun added his professional title, “Dr. Richard Ayodeji Makun (MFR),” indicating a thoughtful reflection on the psychological and societal implications of social media interactions.
