A young man was electrocuted late Friday while attempting to vandalize a transformer near the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) center in Otukpo, Benue State. The incident occurred when power was unexpectedly restored by the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), leading to the man’s immediate electrocution.
Witnesses reported discovering the lifeless body dangling from the high-tension pole on Saturday morning, drawing a large crowd of passersby. According to sources, the victim was found with tools in his hand, indicating his intent to tamper with the transformer. Electricity distribution officials were seen retrieving the body from the pole.
Armed Robbery Attempt Disrupted at Western Delta University
In a separate incident, Western Delta University in Oghara, Delta State, experienced an attempted armed robbery on Thursday, briefly disrupting academic activities. The invasion by suspected armed robbers was thwarted by the prompt actions of students and law enforcement agents, preventing injuries and significant disruptions.
The robbers reportedly gained access through an unfenced section of the campus perimeter. However, their plans were foiled when alert students raised the alarm, prompting a swift response from the Delta State Police. SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, confirmed that the suspects fled upon the arrival of the police. In response to the incident, student leader Simeon Okpoko highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by educational institutions.
