“14 Survive Close Call in Ogun Crash: Speeding Blamed”

A collision at Magboro junction on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway resulted in a multiple-vehicle accident, leaving 14 individuals wounded. The incident took place around 8:30 am and involved three vehicles. A Mazda bus collided with a yellow commercial bus, causing a loss of control and subsequent crash.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the yellow bus suffered severe damage upon impact with the Mazda. Salami Idris, a driver who frequently travels from Magboro to the Mowe area, narrowly avoided being involved and recounted the Mazda driver’s high speed leading to the collision.

Idris recounted, “The driver of the Mazda bus filled with passengers was speeding. It hit the yellow bus from behind, and the bus fell towards the sloppy part of the junction where commercial motorcyclists were usually stationed. It was God that saved us.”

A motorcyclist named Ahmed reported seeing Federal Road Safety Corps officials attending to the injured victims. Concerns were raised that fatalities might have occurred. However, Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector of the FRSC, clarified that no fatalities occurred. Out of the 21 passengers involved, 14 sustained injuries—eight males and six females. The accident resulted from speeding and improper overtaking, causing one vehicle to lose control.
