On Friday, the Abeokuta Magistrates Court sentenced Adeola Saheed, a teenager, to six months in prison for attempting to rape a 35-year-old lady.
The defendant, 19, lives in Abeokuta’s Brewery area and was charged with conspiracy, indecent assault, and attempted rape.
Mrs O.O Odumosu, the magistrate, stated that the prosecution had shown beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty of the charges.
She sentenced Saheed to six months in prison for each of the three crimes, with the option of a N300,000 fine.

Earlier during the trial, the prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the defendant committed the act on October 12, 2023, at around 12:30 pm, at the Olomore Housing Estate in Abeokuta.
According to Shonibare, the defendant collaborated to conduct the crime with another person who is still at large.
He explained that the defendant entered the complainant’s compound with a plank and a screwdriver, claiming to be chasing a thief.
“When he arrived at the compound, he noticed the complainant washing clothes outside her house and asked if she had seen someone run into her compound and if she was the only one there.
