A fire outbreak in the early hours of Saturday destroyed parts of a six-room bungalow at Danialu Alapata Compound in the Gaa Akabi area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Officials of the Kwara State Fire Service said the incident occurred around 2:11 a.m. and affected two of the six rooms in the building. Firefighters responded quickly and successfully contained the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby rooms and surrounding properties.
According to the service’s spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by a power surge that ignited combustible materials inside the affected rooms. The Director of the fire service, Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to install surge protectors, avoid overloading electrical systems, and regularly inspect wiring to prevent similar incidents.
