Amusan Opens 2026 Season with Strong Finish

Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan started her 2026 campaign with an impressive performance, finishing second in the women’s 200m at the Velocity Fest in Jamaica. The 28-year-old clocked a season’s best time of 23.25 seconds in the race.

Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah won the event in 22.61 seconds, while Ackera Nugent placed third with a time of 23.35 seconds. The outing marked Amusan’s first race since the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where she secured a silver medal.

Amusan is expected to return to her main event, the 100m hurdles, at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on July 4. The world record holder will compete against top athletes as she prepares for another busy international season.
