The Benin Traditional Council has taken disciplinary action against some palace officials following an unauthorized visit by social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja to the palace of the Oba of Benin. The council described the incident as a breach of protocol that disrupted order within the palace.

According to the council, preliminary findings led to the suspension of a palace chief, while a staff member was arrested for allegedly aiding the unauthorized access. A queen linked to the incident is also under review and may face further disciplinary measures. The council has directed Adelaja to appear for questioning and submit a formal apology.

In response to the incident, new access guidelines have been introduced, including mandatory written approval and official passes for visitors. The council emphasised that future violations would attract strict penalties, stressing the need to protect the cultural and traditional integrity of the Benin Palace.
