The Lagos State Police Command announced that it has detained Samuel Adeniyi, who is accused of killing his girlfriend in an unnamed location of Lagos by hitting her in the head with a sledgehammer.
This information was provided to the media on Thursday at a press conference held at the Police Officers Mess in Ikeja, Lagos, by state commissioner of police Idowu Owohunwa.
According to Owohunwa, the suspect’s justification for killing the unnamed lover was that he was worried she could leave him for someone else.
“One Samuel Adeniyi got overwhelmed by emotions and smashed the head of his girlfriend, killing her,” the CP said as he paraded suspects in Lagos. Adeniyi claimed that he killed the girl and fled because he thought she may turn on him and leave. We will bring him to justice after we have been successful in apprehending him and locating the sledgehammer he used.
Speaking about other alleged criminals in Lagos, the CP said that within a month of Operation Flush’s inception, the police had made progress by searching criminal hideouts and apprehending suspects, including armed traffic robbers and suspected cults.
“It’s been exactly one month since we started Operation Flush, which was intended to retake the public space from criminal elements that had at some point surfaced to threaten the internal security order in Lagos State,” he added.
We found 18 firearms in the last two weeks, including two AK-47 rifles, one locally made, and one extremely rare weapon. It was also retrieved; it is a kind of weapon that has never been discovered in the criminals’ arsenal in this nation.
