14 people were detained by the Anambra State Joint Enforcement Team of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, Ocha Brigade, for engaging in illegal activity in Onitsha and the surrounding areas while wearing phony military uniforms.
When introducing the suspects to the media on Friday, Ocha Brigade’s managing director, Celestine Anere, stated that the suspects had been detained on Thursday in several Onitsha locations.
Anere claimed that they engaged in robberies, intimidation of innocent locals, and coercive extortion of motorists and bystanders while wearing fake army uniforms.
He also revealed that several of the accused have admitted to robbing commuters and innocent locals of their belongings and phones.
Some of them, he said, had acknowledged using hard narcotics and obtaining information for their criminal counterparts.
He said, “Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, Ocha Brigade, has previously detained and brought charges against some of the hoodlums in related instances and would continue to rid the state of criminals and drug cartels.
“The mission of the state government’s clean, healthy, living, and prosperous homeland is in accordance with the effort to purge the state of criminal elements. Let’s protect our state from bad actors. Additionally, we encourage people to contact the emergency and general customer support numbers.
