Alleged Misappropriation: External auditor to review LP’s accounting – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has stated that an external auditor has been appointed to review the party’s books.

On Monday, Oluchi Opara, the Labour Party’s national treasurer, accused the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, of misappropriating N3.5 billion.
In reaction to the charge made during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the party suspended Opara, claiming she was influenced by “external forces” bent on ruining the LP.
In addition, Abure had threatened to sue Opara for defamation.

In a press conference on Thursday, Peter Obi stated, “We will account for everything now that we have an independent person telling us which way to go.”

Obi, who was joined by a member of his 2023 campaign team, Aisha Yesufu, stated: “I am not involved in the party’s management or campaign accounts.

“The money I received during the election was deposited into one or more accounts that were well maintained because I anticipated there would be days like today. I guarantee you that we will account for everything.

“For the Party issue, We now have an independent person who will tell us which way forward, that’s why I’m calling on every member of the public with leads to where these millions and billions were paid to come forward.”
