In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, the Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) extended a helping hand to 40 widows whose husbands made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. The food support, distributed on Friday at the NAOWA Complex in Maiduguri, aimed to alleviate the hardships faced by these brave women in the wake of prevailing economic challenges.
The initiative, part of the International Women’s Day celebrations themed “Inspire Inclusion,” underscores NAOWA’s commitment to providing compassionate assistance to widows left behind by fallen heroes.
Hajiya Aishat Haruna, Chairperson of NAOWA 7 Division Chapter, expressed the association’s unwavering dedication to supporting widows and empowering them to rebuild their lives amidst adversity. She emphasized the importance of extending a helping hand to those in need, particularly during times of economic hardship.
Haruna remarked, “We’re all aware that the economic situation is very hard; one of the ways to assist these widows is to give them a lending hand and show them that we care and to bring succour to most of them who’re in need.”
In addition to providing immediate relief, NAOWA aims to inspire and empower women to play active roles in community and national development. Haruna highlighted the pivotal role of women in nation-building, emphasizing their readiness to contribute meaningfully to progress and prosperity.
“We’re here to inspire our women; to show them that they can do better. We want the encouragement to start from the home front because without a woman, there’s no nation but with women, we can accelerate, make progress and we can build a better nation,” she affirmed.
