Abia Governor Orders Payment of Government Office Electricity Bills

Abia State, Nigeria – The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has issued an order to settle the outstanding electricity bills of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state. The decision was made following the State Executive Council meeting.

Government offices in Aba and parts of Umuahia have faced electricity supply issues, operating primarily with mini-generators. The accumulated unpaid bills by previous administrations in the state have contributed to this challenge. To improve the working conditions in government facilities, the state government has initiated efforts to reconnect these facilities with public power supply.

The reconnection process began with health facilities, including Amachara General Hospital, to ensure better conditions for both government facilities and the entire state. The state government is also in talks with Aba Powers to explore ways to assist them, with a focus on improving power supply in rural areas.

In addition to addressing the electricity issue, the governor is set to launch the reconstruction of the 6.3km Port Harcourt Road in Aba, signifying a commitment to enhancing transportation and movement within the state. The state’s “Operation Zero Potholes” initiative is also ongoing in Umuahia to further improve road infrastructure.

Furthermore, the state government is actively participating in this year’s World Eye Sight Day, which will provide free eyesight tests in the state’s three senatorial zones. The establishment of Vision Corridor, offering free eyesight tests for drivers, is a notable part of this initiative. The state government aims to extend power supply to the Ohafia area after completing similar projects in Umuahia and Aba. Additionally, the Aba Trade Fair will be used to showcase the city’s unique offerings and achievements to the world.

The government’s actions reflect its commitment to improving infrastructure, public services, and overall living conditions in Abia State.
