After 100 days in office as the Governor of Abia State, the Abia Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized Alex Otti and the Labour Party for what it perceives as their inability to present a scorecard showcasing their achievements. The party’s vice-chairman and acting Publicity Secretary, Abraham Amah, stated that Otti has failed to unite Abians and has taken actions that weaken the state’s democracy.
The Abia PDP claims that Otti has made several policy decisions without proper consultation or consideration of civil service rules, including suspending Permanent Secretaries and initially sacking thousands of workers. They also criticize Otti’s economic policies, saying he has not unveiled any plans for Aba, the state’s economic hub, and has only focused on widening the tax net.
Otti’s aide, Chief Press Secretary Kazie Uko, defends the Governor’s achievements in the first 100 days, highlighting improvements in various sectors, including health, education, road infrastructure, security, and salary and pension payments. Uko suggests that Otti’s administration has rejuvenated Abia State after years of mismanagement by previous administrations.
This statement highlights the political tension and disagreements between the ruling PDP and the opposition Labour Party in Abia State, with both sides presenting contrasting views on Otti’s performance in office.
