The Abia State Polytechnic chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has recently held elections, resulting in the appointment of new officers. Dr. Chike David was elected as Chairman, Nwaogazi Ben. C. as Vice Chairman, and Dr. Stella Ikoro as General Secretary. Other elected officials include Adindu David as Assistant Secretary, Chinedum Adiele as Treasurer, Joe Ogbonnaya Irukwu as Publicity Secretary, Abazie Ifeanyi as Financial Secretary, Osobaese Lovina as Internal Auditor, and Nwazue Stephen as Welfare Secretary.
Dr. Chika Ogonwa, the ASUP national financial secretary, conducted the election at the institution’s main campus and praised the members of ASUP in Abia Poly for their mature conduct during the process. Dr. Ogonwa expressed gratitude to Governor Dr. Alex Otti for appointing a new Rector, believing that this appointment will contribute to the advancement of Abia Poly.
During a courtesy visit to the acting Rector, Chidinma Ndukwe, Dr. Chike, the newly elected ASUP Chairman, assured her that the election was conducted peacefully. He also acknowledged the timely intervention of the National Leadership of ASUP in ensuring a fair election. Dr. Chike commended the Rector for her transparency and pledged that the new ASUP executive would work diligently for the betterment of the institution and its staff.
The Welfare Secretary, Nwazue, promised wholehearted service to the union, aiming to satisfy the members and benefit the institution as a whole. In her address, the acting Rector congratulated the newly elected officers and urged them to propel the institution forward. She also informed the new executive of Governor Otti’s commitment to promptly paying salaries and prioritizing staff welfare, instilling hope for a brighter future.
