About Now: Court of Appeal Upholds Bala Mohammed’s Victory as Bauchi State Governor

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has affirmed Bala Mohammed’s position as the Governor of Bauchi State, dismissing the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Sadique Abubakar. The decision follows Abubakar’s challenge to the victory of Mohammed, declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the gubernatorial election.

Initially, the governorship election petition tribunal in the state had upheld Mohammed’s victory, a ruling that was contested by Abubakar, a former Chief of Staff, at the Court of Appeal.

In its judgment on Friday, the Appellate Court upheld the victory of Bala Mohammed, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, solidifying his mandate.

Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, expressed delight over the court’s decision, emphasizing that the verdict affirms democracy’s strength and underscores the commitment of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration to the progress, development, and general well-being of the state’s residents.

Jatau stated, “The victory at the appeal court is a triumph for all the people of the state as it signifies the PDP-led administration’s collective endeavors in advancing good governance, providing quality education, ensuring accessible healthcare, fostering economic growth, and promoting peace and unity.”

He extended appreciation to the citizens for their support, acknowledging their resilience and belief in the administration’s vision. The deputy governor also commended the Appeal Court for ensuring a fair and transparent judicial process, highlighting the efficacy of the justice system in upholding the principles of justice, equity, and the rule of law.

The victory, according to Jatau, serves as a fresh impetus for the PDP-led administration to redouble efforts, stay focused, and continue delivering on campaign promises for the welfare and development of Bauchi State. He expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his leadership, describing it as pivotal in driving positive change and transforming the state’s landscape toward unity, prosperity, and a brighter future for all.
