Adeleke Given 10-Day Ultimatum to Settle Judges’ Allowances

An Ibadan-based lawyer, Mutalubi Adebayo, SAN, has issued a 10-day ultimatum to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, demanding the payment of outstanding allowances owed to retired and serving judges in the state. Adebayo warned that if the governor fails to comply with the demand by September 30, legal action will commence in a court of competent jurisdiction on October 3, seeking to recover the unpaid allowances, as well as interest and aggravated damages.

In a statement, Adebayo emphasized that the arrears of allowances owed to judicial officers in Osun State, from the tenure of the former governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, until the present, must be settled promptly. He accused the government of Osun State of callousness, recklessness, disregard for the rule of law, indecency, and unfairness in refusing to pay these allowances over the years.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, regarding the ultimatum.
