Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s statement about leading Nigeria to the “promised land.” During a New Year address in Lagos, Tinubu assured Nigerians of his administration’s resolve to achieve prosperity for the country. Adeyanju humorously responded on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Please drop me; I don’t want to follow Nigerians to where you are taking them.”
Adeyanju also raised concerns about legislative transparency, claiming that some senators lacked access to the 2025 budget before its passage. He revealed that five senators admitted not seeing the previous budget and expressed doubts about proper scrutiny of the new ₦47.9 trillion budget, presented by Tinubu as “The Restoration Budget.”
The budget outlines key allocations, including ₦4.91 trillion for defense and security, ₦4.06 trillion for infrastructure, ₦3.52 trillion for education, and ₦2.48 trillion for health. Adeyanju stressed that lawmakers must critically examine the budget, emphasizing the importance of accountability in the legislative process.
