The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Éno, has conveyed his gratitude to the people of the state through a unique initiative. He announced the “one project per local government” program as a way of appreciating the support the People’s Democratic Party received from the residents during the elections.
Governor Éno made these remarks during a “Thank You Visit” to the Eket Senatorial District of the state. He expressed his concern over the common practice of politicians seeking votes during election cycles but failing to return afterward to show appreciation. The “one project per local government” scheme is his way of saying “thank you” for the people’s support.
During his visit, Governor Éno thanked the twelve local governments in the Eket senatorial district for their backing during the election campaigns. He stressed the importance of not taking voters for granted and highlighted the need for government engagement to benefit the citizens.
The governor emphasized that his administration would not merely appeal for votes and then forget about the people. He stressed the significance of returning to local communities to provide essential facilities such as schools, markets, and hospitals, as a way of ensuring that the citizens feel the government’s impact.
Governor Éno announced the commencement of two vital projects, the Orukim – Unyenge road in Mbo LGA and the Ikot Ubo-Nsit Atai road projects, which are expected to contribute to the economic development of the state.
He pledged his administration’s commitment to executing development projects that would positively affect the lives of rural residents, emphasizing the importance of addressing delicate issues wisely to avoid conflicts.
Furthermore, the governor encouraged stakeholders and leaders to work harmoniously in choosing projects to facilitate the government’s development plans for the grassroots. In response, the Senator representing Eket Senatorial District, Ekong Sampson, praised Governor Éno’s leadership qualities and assured the district’s support for government initiatives aimed at the state’s overall development.
