Anambra State Governor Announces Strict Compliance with Burial Laws for Late Father

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has declared that the burial of his late father, Pa Simeon Soludo, will adhere strictly to the burial laws of Anambra State. The governor made this announcement after receiving a condolence letter from members of the State Executive Council, delivered by Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and Secretary to the State Government Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu.

In a press statement issued by Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the governor expressed his gratitude for the thoughtfulness and solidarity of the State Executive Council during this difficult moment. He highlighted the symbolic coincidence of his father’s passing, occurring on November 6, 2023, which coincided with the anniversary of his election.

Governor Soludo emphasized that his father led a dignified life and would be accorded a decent burial, devoid of obscenities. He assured that the burial ceremony would strictly adhere to Anambra’s burial laws, with no room for ego-driven displays.

The statement further noted that the governor would release a formal statement regarding the burial arrangements in due course.

Anambra’s burial laws, enacted on April 9, 2019, and recently reinforced, include regulations such as restrictions on erecting billboards, banners, or posters of the deceased. The laws also limit the duration of corpse storage in the mortuary, prohibit road blockades for burials without local government authority permission, and set guidelines for public displays, wake-keeping, and cultural activities during funeral services. Violation of these laws is subject to fines or imprisonment.
