The Anambra State Joint Enforcement Team, known as Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade), has apprehended 14 suspects who were using fake military uniforms to engage in criminal activities in Onitsha and its surroundings.
Celestine Anere, the Managing Director of Ocha Brigade, addressed journalists while parading the suspects and revealed that they were arrested on Thursday at various locations in Onitsha. These individuals were employing counterfeit army uniforms to carry out various crimes, including robbery, harassment of innocent residents, and extortion of money from motorists and pedestrians in the area.
Anere further stated that some of the suspects had confessed to stealing and snatching phones and valuables from commuters and residents. Additionally, some of them admitted to using illegal drugs and gathering intelligence for criminal associates.
He emphasized that Ocha Brigade, as part of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, has been working to apprehend and prosecute such criminals in an effort to maintain the state’s safety and security. The initiative aligns with the state government’s goal of creating a clean, healthy, livable, and prosperous homeland. He also encouraged the public to use the provided customer service lines for emergencies and inquiries while urging everyone to help secure the state from criminal elements.
