On Monday, irate customers whose SIM cards were deactivated due to non-linkage with their National Identification Numbers (NIN) vandalized an MTN office in Lagos State. The disruption occurred as several frustrated MTN customers gathered at the company’s offices nationwide, expressing their anger over the recent blocking of their phone numbers.
The situation escalated at the MTN office located at 72 Junction, Opposite First Bank, 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos. Angry subscribers, alleging that staff were unhelpful, broke into the premises, as shown in a 17-second video shared on X. The footage captured the crowd dismantling iron security bars to gain access to the building.

By the time of this report, order had been restored at the scene. In response to the incident, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued a directive on Monday, instructing telecommunication operators to immediately reactivate all SIM cards that had been blocked due to the NIN-SIM verification exercise.
