APC Chastises Atiku Over Academic Records Request from Chicago State University

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his quest to obtain President Bola Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University. The APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, attributed Atiku and the PDP’s actions to “post-election defeat disorder” and advised Atiku to retire from politics.

This comes after the United States District Court for Northern Illinois reportedly received President Tinubu’s certificates in compliance with a court order. The Chicago State University (CSU) had released the academic records following Atiku’s request, which was related to the February 25, 2023, presidential election.

Justice Nancy Maldonado had ordered the CSU to release the president’s academic records despite Tinubu’s objections. The CSU documents were then released, responding to Atiku’s requests for copies of diplomas and related documents.

In response to the documents, the PDP insisted that President Tinubu had presented conflicting documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and hinted at presenting the relevant documents to the Supreme Court as part of its appeal.

However, some officials and lawyers have criticized Atiku’s efforts, describing them as futile and unnecessary. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, stated that Atiku’s journey had been “a journey to nowhere” and called for an apology to President Tinubu. Tope Ajayi, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, also criticized Atiku, labeling him an ingrate.

Legal experts questioned the probative value of the CSU documents in Atiku’s appeal at the Supreme Court, as the educational qualifications of President Tinubu were not a significant issue in the tribunal. They noted that the documents might not add value to Atiku’s case.

A senior presidency source defended President Tinubu, stating that the development showed he had nothing to hide and that CSU had consistently affirmed his graduation from their institution.
