The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has made it clear that the party will not interfere in the ongoing dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Speaking in an interview with Punch, Basiru emphasized that since Akpoti-Uduaghan is not a member of the APC, the issue remains outside the party’s jurisdiction.
According to Basiru, the matter is strictly legislative and does not require APC’s involvement. He maintained that Akpabio is fully capable of defending himself against any allegations. “This is not a party issue. If she were a member, maybe things would be different, but as it stands, this is a legislative and legal matter,” he explained.
He further noted that any concerns regarding legislative privileges will be handled within the Senate, while legal disputes such as defamation will be addressed in the courts. “Proper legal action will be taken against anyone violating the law,” Basiru affirmed, making it clear that the APC will remain neutral in the controversy.
