APC’s Pogu wins Chibok bye-election in Borno

In the Saturday House of Assembly by-election for Borno’s Chibok Constituency, Lawan Pogu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, has been proclaimed the victor.

Returning Officer Prof. Baba Kyari-Waziri announced the results on Sunday. He said that Pogu received 9,101 votes, more than his nearest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Habila Bello, who received 2,117 votes.

Other contenders include Maina Sheriff of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with 12 votes, Hamid Zamzam of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), with 63 votes, and Abdullahi Gambo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with 69 votes.

Haruna Shettima of the Action People’s Party (APP) received 17 votes, while Abdullahi Lawan of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) received 48.

Following the passing of Nuhu Clerk, the first-choice winner of the 2023 election, a by-election was held in Chibok.
