Shettima Yerima, National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), has praised the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) amidst recent criticisms. This comes in response to comments made by former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, who claimed that justice in Nigeria is “commodified” and influenced by the highest bidder, highlighting the judiciary as the primary problem in Nigeria’s democracy rather than INEC.
Yerima, in a statement on Saturday, reaffirmed his belief in INEC as a reputable institution that upholds fairness, impartiality, and transparency in elections. He emphasized that Obi’s comments strengthen the AYCF’s long-standing position that INEC consistently conducts credible elections.
“Peter Obi’s remarks have vindicated our stance and affirmed that INEC is not the primary obstacle to democratic electoral practices in Nigeria. We emphasized the importance of strong institutions like INEC in ensuring the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process,” Yerima stated.
The AYCF continues to support INEC, asserting that it remains an impartial and unbiased body crucial to maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s elections.
