In a recent development, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has shed light on the evolving tactics employed by terrorist organizations in Nigeria. During his visit to Maiduguri to evaluate the security situation in the state, he revealed that groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) have adopted new strategies to sustain their malevolent activities.
According to a statement released by Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS pointed out that these insurgent groups are now resorting to kidnapping for ransom, looting to acquire necessary resources, and targeting civilians with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Lagbaja commended the troops for their operational successes thus far and assured them of continued support. He emphasized the need to provide combat enablers to bolster ongoing operations in the region.
As part of his visit, the Army Chief also intended to assess the efforts of troops involved in Operation Hadin Kai, with the overarching goal of restoring peace to the state. These revelations underscore the ever-changing nature of security threats in the region and the ongoing commitment of the Nigerian military to adapt and counteract these evolving tactics.
