Paul Ibe, Special Adviser to Atiku Abubakar, claimed that Atiku’s warning to military leaders led the Nigerian Army to admit that its personnel killed a peaceful protester in Zaria. This admission came after Atiku warned that service chiefs who authorize lethal force against protesters would be held accountable for crimes against humanity.

In response to the Presidency’s criticism of Atiku’s stance, Ibe stated that the Army’s admission of the incident confirms Atiku’s call for accountability. He emphasized that even those giving orders for such actions will face international legal consequences.
