Bankruptcy Looms for Maureen Badejo Over Unpaid Defamation Damages

Maureen Badejo, who was previously ordered by a UK court to pay punitive damages of £100,000.00 for defaming Dr. Daniel Olukoya, the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), and his wife, Pastor Mrs. Folashade Olukoya, now faces the possibility of bankruptcy.

Despite the court’s verdict in 2021, Maureen Badejo has been unable to make any payment towards the damages. Her unsuccessful attempt to appeal the judgment further exacerbated her situation, as interest on the judgment sum continued to accrue. This led the Olukoyas’ lawyer to file for bankruptcy against her.

At a recent hearing regarding the bankruptcy application, Maureen Badejo claimed not to have received the legal papers for the bankruptcy petition, despite evidence showing that she had been served. The court granted her one final opportunity and ordered a hearing to be scheduled after 14 days.

Maureen Badejo has offered to pay Dr. Daniel Olukoya £1,000.00 per month, implying that it would take her approximately 100 months (about 9 years) to settle the damages. However, this offer was promptly rejected by the Olukoyas’ legal representatives as wholly unsatisfactory.
