Bauchi Govt Fires Secretary for Fraud

Bauchi, October 7, 2023 – In a recent development, the Bauchi State Government has taken decisive action against an employee of the State Hospitals Management Board. Sani Mohammed Tirwun, a Secretarial Assistant II, has been dismissed from his position following allegations of fraudulent activities.

Tirwun was found guilty of a series of offenses, including falsification of records, issuance of fake appointment letters, illegal staff postings, faking of the Board’s Staff Officer’s signature, and alteration of posting letters. These actions were in violation of Chapter (4) Section 4 Rule 108, item xvii, xiv, xv of Bauchi State Public Service Regulation 2017 (reviewed version).

Additionally, Tirwun allegedly collected over N1 million from individuals in exchange for issuing fake appointment letters. He also reportedly received sums of N250,000, N200,000, and N150,000 to manipulate staff postings.

The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission made the announcement during its 22nd plenary session held on October 5, 2023. According to Saleh Umar, the Information Officer of the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission, the officer’s dismissal is effective from October 1, 2023.

Umar emphasized that the Commission takes allegations of misconduct seriously and urged job seekers to exercise caution when dealing with such individuals. He advised victims of Tirwun’s actions to seek redress through appropriate agencies.

This dismissal follows previous actions taken by the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission against employees involved in financial misappropriation and forgery. In August 2023, two staff members of the Ministry of Finance, Nasiru Sama’ila and Auwal Jibrin, were dismissed for forging documents and diverting N330,000 belonging to a deceased former colleague. Just two weeks earlier, another employee, Ibrahim Garba, attached to the State Pension Board, was also dismissed for similar offenses.

The Bauchi State Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining integrity within the state’s public service by taking swift action against those involved in fraudulent activities.
