Auwal Usman, 32, was given a two-year prison term for using a machete to cut off his friend’s hands at a magistrates’ court in Bauchi State presided over by Haruna Abdulmumini Mamman.
A dispute between the defendant and his friend Sabo Abduwa, of Dogon Ruwa village Ari in Ningi LGA, led to a physical altercation, the prosecutor, Inspector Yusuf Musa, earlier told the court.
He claimed that during the incident, the defendant stabbed his friend’s hands, leaving one hanging and the other fully down.
The remaining hand of Abduwa was cut off after being transferred to General Hospital Ningi, according to the prosecution.
He pointed out that Section 241 of the Penal Code was violated by the offense.
The accused entered a guilty plea and begged for mercy.
Chief Magistrate Mamman stated that the court was persuaded that the defendant’s horrific deed caused the victim to lose both of his hands, which would have left the victim crippled.
As a result, Mamman sentenced him to two years in prison without the possibility of a punishment for causing great harm and mandated that he pay the victim’s N150,000 medical bill.
