The Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), a non-profit organization focused on promoting good governance and youth-inclusive policies, has raised concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointment of Abubakar Momoh as the Minister of Youth. In a statement issued by the Director of Communications, Sanni Alausa-Issa, BBYDI urged President Tinubu to reconsider the appointment and prioritize genuine representation and engagement of the youth in his administration.
The statement expressed puzzlement over the appointment of a Minister of Youth who may not fall within the youth demographic as defined by the National Youth Policy in Nigeria. While acknowledging that age is not the sole criterion for qualification, BBYDI emphasized the importance of having representatives who can understand the unique challenges faced by young citizens and relate to their aspirations.
The organization stressed that youth inclusivity in governance is essential for meaningful policy development and implementation. It called on President Tinubu to reevaluate the appointment and consider appointing young individuals to key positions within his administration. Additionally, BBYDI urged the government to engage in genuine dialogue with youth representatives and organizations to better understand their needs and concerns.
The statement highlighted the role of young people as the future of the nation and emphasized that involving them in policy discussions and decision-making would contribute to the growth and development of the country.
By issuing this statement, BBYDI aims to encourage President Tinubu to prioritize youth engagement and representation in his administration, aligning with his commitment to youth inclusivity and participation in governance.
