With allegations swirling around Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, La Liga has made an unconventional move, enlisting the expertise of a lip-reading specialist.
La Liga has enlisted the expertise of a lip-reading specialist to probe an alleged comment made by Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham towards Getafe’s Mason Greenwood during Thursday’s match. The Madrid star is alleged to have branded the Manchester United loanee a ‘rapist’ after a coming together near the touchline that resulted in a combative tackle. The league confirms that Getafe has submitted a formal complaint and vows to take action based on concrete evidence.

The incident unfolded after England’s Bellingham tackled Greenwood in Real’s 2-0 victory, with a video clip of the moment quickly circulating on social media. The recipient of Bellingham’s alleged remark remains unspecified.
In a statement released on Friday, La Liga announced, “Yesterday, Getafe filed a formal complaint with the La Liga match director who, as per standard procedure in such cases, has requested an expert lip-reading report to investigate the matter and act based on hard evidence.”
Greenwood, aged 22, embarked on a season-long loan with Getafe from Manchester United on 1 September. In August, United announced that the one-time England international would depart the club by mutual agreement following a six-month internal investigation into his behavior.
This decision followed the dropping of charges, including attempted rape and assault, against Greenwood in February. His contract with Old Trafford extends until 2025, and he has recorded six goals in 21 appearances this season.
Bellingham, aged 20, transferred to Real during the summer for 103 million euros (£88.5 million) and has netted 18 goals in 27 appearances for Los Blancos.
