Rapper Blaqbonez has once again addressed the issue of certain artists maintaining top 20 positions on music charts without having genuine listeners for their songs. During an interview with Cool FM 96.9, the Chocolate City rapper shed light on the existence of nameless artists who secure spots on the Apple Music Top Songs chart for Nigeria without having a dedicated fan base.
Blaqbonez shared that these artists resort to using stream farms to artificially inflate their numbers and secure a place in the top 10 to 20 positions. The practice of stream farms, which involves artificially generating streams to boost chart rankings, became a topic of discussion on social media in 2022 following a feud between artists BNXN (formerly known as Buju) and Ruger.
This deceptive tactic, prevalent globally but previously thought to be absent in Nigeria, has now come to light, raising concerns and discussions among artists and music enthusiasts.
