Over the weekend, unidentified gunmen ignited the palace of Eze Ezekiel Nwokedi, the chosen leader of Okwuru Orsu Ihitteukwu Community in Imo state. Nwokedi also heads the Odimma Orsu Initiative, a prominent group focused on fostering peace in the troubled region.
Lamenting the incident, the distressed leader disclosed that the attackers not only plundered his possessions but also set his residence ablaze, resulting in a loss of property valued at approximately #85 million. The destruction arrives in the midst of ongoing efforts by the Odimma Orsu Initiative to curtail insecurity that has plagued the community for almost three years, involving unwarranted violence, home burnings, and asset looting.
This unfortunate event occurred just as a semblance of stability was returning, highlighting the fragile nature of the area’s security. Eze Ezekiel Nwokedi called upon local youth to embrace the state government’s offer of amnesty, believing it’s a path to restoring tranquility to the Orsu communities.
In response, Henry Okoye (ASP), spokesperson for the State Police Command, stated he hadn’t yet received information regarding the incident from the Area Command.
