The U.S. government under Donald Trump is planning to shut down nearly 30 embassies and consulates around the world, and many of them are in Africa. A report from CNN, based on a leaked document, says the U.S. embassies in countries like Congo, South Sudan, Lesotho, and the Central African Republic could be closed soon. Even a U.S. consulate in South Africa may be affected.

The secret document suggests closing 10 embassies and 17 consulates across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. Places like Malta, Luxembourg, and even parts of France, Germany, and the U.K. are also on the list. The goal is said to be cutting costs and reducing the number of U.S. government workers overseas.

This move is part of a bigger plan by the Trump team to make government smaller and cheaper, with support from a department reportedly backed by Elon Musk. The same plan talks about reducing U.S. presence in Somalia and Iraq, but it’s not yet clear if the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, agrees with the idea. The State Department has not made any official comment yet.

As violence continues in Plateau and Benue states, Nigerians have brought back an old tweet from President Bola Tinubu, where he once criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan over insecurity. The tweet, posted on January 29, 2014, condemned the killing of Christian worshippers and questioned Jonathan’s ability to protect the nation.

Gunmen attacked the family home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State, on Tuesday night. The attackers believed the Senator was in town and stormed her grandfather’s house, damaging windows. Luckily, security operatives and local residents quickly chased them away, and no one was hurt.

Senator Natasha’s media team believes the attack may be linked to her recent bold accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She had earlier claimed he sexually harassed her, and the attack, they say, seems like an attempt to silence her.

The Senator explained that her brother had gone with some workers to inspect areas for new projects in the community. The gunmen may have thought she was there and attacked. Former APC Chairman in Enugu State, Barrister Ben Nwoye, has officially left the party. He said the party is full of fights, confusion, and broken leadership, which is why he can no longer stay. Nwoye made this announcement during a press meeting at De Sheriff Hotel in Enugu, saying he can’t continue being part of what he called “political war.”

Nwoye helped build the APC from the start, but now says the party is no longer united. He described the party’s symbol—the broom—as “loosened and permanently scattered.” He blamed APC leaders in the South East for playing politics of revenge instead of working together. He also said there are now two fighting groups in Enugu APC, with one group backed by the court and the other doing as they please.

He didn’t stop there—he also pointed fingers at the national APC leaders, saying they’ve ignored all efforts to fix the problems. He said big names like Senator Chris Ngige and Dr. Ikechi Emenike are also being pushed aside, even after working hard for the party. With Nwoye gone, many now worry more about the future of APC in Enugu and the whole South East.
