Olubodun Sanni, a 21-year-old final-year student at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, AAUA, Ondo State, has admitted to fatally stabbing Adekunle Ifeoluwa, a 20-year-old female student at the same university, for her iPhone XR.
Adebisi, the victim, was a 300-level economics student at the college who shared a campus hostel with her killer.
According to police sources, the suspect said that he was drawn to the victim through her phone and developed a plan to become her friend.
According to a police source, “The suspect confessed even to her parents that on that fateful day, he approached the victim to transfer some films from her phone to his iPad.”
“The naïve female student obliged, but refused to let him into her room. She informed the suspect that her phone battery was low.
“The suspect then excused himself to come back later with his power bank to charge the victim’s phone.”He returned to the victim’s room late and was permitted in, when he grabbed her by the neck and stabbed her in the chest with the knife he had brought with him.
“The suspect then took the victim’s phone, destroyed her SIM card and inserted his own SIM card.”Police discovered that he used the phone during the day and hid it in an unfinished building near the hostel.”
Reporters learned from police detectives that the SIM was active and traced the call chart to the suspect’s mother, who was later detained.
“The mother after interrogation, led police detectives to her son’s hostel where he was arrested.” A source familiar with the matter stated.
Parading the accused killer, a Geology student at the college, with other offenders, the state Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, stated in Akure that the suspect was apprehended after using contemporary technology to trace her stolen phone.
