A businesswoman identified as Mrs. Onyi Ugba was forcefully abducted by a group of heavily armed gunmen on Friday night. The incident took place at Okija Street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Around five gunmen stormed Mrs. Ugba’s Superstore located at Umuoji junction/Okija Street, intending to rob her of the day’s earnings. However, when the businesswoman couldn’t produce a substantial amount of money, the criminals changed their plan and decided to abduct her instead.
Witnesses reported that the area was filled with chaos as people sought safety while the gunmen fired shots sporadically during the abduction.
The Mile 1 Police Diobu responded promptly to the scene, although the hoodlums had already fled by the time they arrived.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the police are intensifying efforts to rescue the victim unharmed and apprehend the suspects who are currently on the run.
Notably, Mrs. Ugba had previously fallen victim to an armed robbery in December 2022 when her Superstore on Okija Street was targeted, resulting in the loss of millions of naira. The suspects from that incident had not been apprehended prior to this latest abduction on Friday.
