Parents in the Ayetoro Makun community in the Sagamu West Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed their concerns about the deplorable condition and poor facilities at the only public primary school in the area, St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School. The school, established in 1916, is in a state of disrepair, with one building having been abandoned due to a damaged roof, while the other has only two classrooms for around 150 pupils. Overgrown grasses surround the buildings, creating an unfavorable environment for learning.
The Chairman of the school’s Parents-Teachers Association noted the lack of good classrooms and a conducive learning environment for the students. Efforts to maintain the school have relied on communal support, including parents contributing to employ extra teachers to teach the pupils. However, these efforts have waned, and parents are no longer enrolling their children in the school due to the inadequate facilities.
The state Commissioner for Education has been contacted, but there is no response yet on the matter. The situation underscores the need for improved infrastructure in public schools to provide a conducive and safe environment for students.
