A 19-year-old teenager, Peterson Enoch, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison by a Kaduna High Court judge, Justice Dairus Khobo, for internet fraud. Enoch, a resident of Millennium City in Kaduna, was convicted of the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In addition to the prison sentence, Justice Khobo ordered Enoch to pay a fine of N100,000 or serve the prison term. The judge also ruled that an iPhone 12 and an Infinix S5 phone recovered from the convict during his arrest be forfeited to the Federal Government. Enoch was further directed to restitute $1,000 to his victim, Kingsley Matthew.
The EFCC had arrested Enoch on August 25 in Malali, Kaduna, following actionable intelligence regarding the activities of suspected fraudsters. Upon his arrest, electronic devices and fraudulent documents were discovered in his possession. Enoch had impersonated someone named Sandra James and defrauded the victim of $1,000 using fictitious emails.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges during the court proceedings.
