Court Stops INEC from Acting on Senator Natasha’s Recall

A Federal High Court in Lokoja has halted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from processing any recall petition against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The court ruled that INEC must not act on any petition containing “fictitious signatures and names” until a pending motion is determined.

The ruling followed an ex-parte application by voters from Kogi Central, who argued that fraudulent signatures were being used to initiate the recall. Justice Isa Dashen ordered that INEC and its agents must not conduct any referendum based on such a petition.

The case, filed by Smart Nwachinemere on behalf of the applicants, has been adjourned to May 6, 2025, for further proceedings.
