Dangote Readies Production, 6M Barrels Supply

World’s Largest Single-Train Refinery Completes Initial Scheduled Consignment

In a significant milestone, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced on Monday its readiness to begin production of refined petroleum products, marking the receipt of the sixth and final batch of one million barrels of crude oil. This shipment, delivered by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited, completes the initial scheduled six million barrels consignment required for the commencement of operations at the world’s largest single-train refinery.

The Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, stated, “Once the six million barrels are fully delivered, it will facilitate the initial run of the refinery as well as kick-start the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas before subsequently progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit.”

Exactly a month ago, the refinery received its first one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited. Since then, it has continued to receive crude oil in batches, culminating in the final delivery received on Monday at the Single Point Mooring at the Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal.

Designed to process 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has the flexibility to handle various crudes, including 100% Nigerian crude, African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crudes from other countries. The refinery is poised to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel, with surplus quantities available for export.

This development is expected to play a crucial role in alleviating fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries. The refinery’s capacity and versatility position it as a key player in the regional and global energy landscape, contributing to enhanced energy security and economic development
