Findwhosabi News brings you groundbreaking news as Dangote Petroleum Refinery kicks off production of diesel and aviation fuel. The largest single-train refinery globally, Dangote Refinery, officially commenced operations in the early hours of Friday.
The initiation of production follows the recent arrival of the refinery’s sixth one million barrels of crude cargo, a crucial milestone for the start of operations. A statement by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, confirmed the commencement of production and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his invaluable support, encouragement, and insightful advice in realizing this monumental project.

Dangote also extended appreciation to key entities, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), as well as the entire nation for their unwavering support and belief in this historic project.
The billionaire industrialist disclosed that the products, namely diesel and aviation fuel, are set to hit the market within the month, pending regulatory approvals. Aliko Dangote expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, stating, “This production, as witnessed today, would not have been possible without his visionary leadership and prompt attention to details.”
He continued, “This is a big day for Nigeria. We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. This is an important achievement for our country as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. This is a game-changer for our country, and I am very fulfilled with the actualization of this project.”
The Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, shared that the receipt of six million barrels of crude would facilitate the initial run of the refinery, initiating the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) production following subsequently.
The Dangote Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, was inaugurated in May 2023 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. Notably, the refinery has the capability to load 2,900 trucks daily at its truck-loading gantries, and its products adhere to Euro V specifications, marking a significant leap for Nigeria’s energy landscape.
