Renowned Twitter personality, Daniel Regha, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed bill by billionaire senator Ned Nwoko, advocating for Nigerians to be allowed to bear arms for self-defense. Nwoko had put forth the bill in response to the rising wave of insecurity across the nation.

According to a report by Gistreel, Regha believes that endorsing the proposed gun legislation would exacerbate the existing security challenges rather than resolve them. He raised concerns about the potential for abuse and the risk of firearms falling into the wrong hands, including those of criminals.
Regha questioned the assurance that legalizing firearms would not lead to misuse and emphasized the prevalence of incidents where people resort to violence, even over minor disputes. He argued that permitting the widespread possession of firearms might escalate such situations, adding to the country’s problems.
In his statement, Regha stated, “Ned Nwoko’s firearms bill should not be encouraged; This won’t solve the insecurity issue but only worsen it. Let’s assume Nigerians are allowed to obtain firearms (legally), what’s the guarantee that the majority won’t misuse it, or that these arms won’t end up in the hands of criminals?”
He continued by highlighting incidents where people resort to violence using makeshift weapons like broken bottles during minor disagreements, expressing his concern that legalizing firearms could potentially magnify such confrontations.
The Twitter personality’s remarks reflect the ongoing public discourse surrounding the proposed bill, with differing opinions on whether allowing citizens to bear arms would enhance or undermine national security.
