Twitter personality Daniel Regha has ignited a storm of controversy in response to a video featuring cyber fraudster Hushpuppi celebrating the birthday of renowned influencer Tunde Ednut from his prison cell.
Hushpuppi, currently serving time in the United States for money laundering, marked Tunde Ednut’s 38th birthday with a video that has since gone viral, drawing the ire of Regha. In a passionate reaction, Daniel expressed his disapproval of the widely circulated video and called on Nigerians to stop portraying Hushpuppi as an icon or a positive role model.

Labeling Hushpuppi as a criminal, Regha urged that he should be treated as such, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the negative impact of individuals like him. He highlighted the issue of “yahoo boys,” a term used for individuals involved in internet fraud, as one of the country’s significant challenges, attributing part of the problem to figures like Hushpuppi who, according to Daniel, encouraged such activities.
In a stern caution to fellow Nigerians, Daniel urged restraint in endorsing activities under the guise of entertainment or “cruising.” He stressed the need to be mindful of what is encouraged, stating, “Let’s be mindful of what we encourage in the name of cruise.”
Furthermore, Daniel expressed concern about the alleged privileges Hushpuppi enjoys in prison, particularly the access to a phone and a variety of meals. He argued that if true, such treatment is wrong, and Hushpuppi should be held accountable for his crimes.
In a concluding statement, Daniel pointed out the paradox of criticizing politicians while simultaneously glorifying individuals involved in cybercrime, labeling such behavior as “pathetic.”
The Twitter community continues to engage in a heated debate over the ethical implications of celebrating a convicted criminal’s actions, with Daniel Regha’s posts sparking conversations about societal values and the influence of social media.
